Introduction to Our Couple Counselling

Confidentiality

Our individual therapy is a confidential process, ensuring that discussions in therapy remain private between you and your therapist. This confidentiality allows you to be open and honest, without concerns about privacy. At Relationary, we uphold the highest standards of client confidentiality.

Duration

The duration of individual therapy varies based on each person’s unique needs and goals. Some individuals may require only a few sessions to tackle a specific issue, while others might benefit from ongoing counseling for more complex challenges. It’s noteworthy that Relationary offers discounts for committed individuals.

Techniques

In individual therapy, various techniques/approaches are used, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, emotionally-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions. The approach is determined based on the discussion between you and your practitioner, ensuring it best fits your unique needs.

Assessments

Individual assessments play a crucial role in the realm of personal therapy, acting as a guide for therapists and clients towards improved mental health and well-being. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

This is a widely-used therapeutic approach that can be very effective in couples counseling. The focus of CBT is on identifying and changing negative thoughts and behavior patterns that contribute to relationship problems. For example, a therapist might help a couple recognize harmful communication patterns and replace them with more positive and effective ones.

Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT)

This approach focuses on the emotional connection between partners and aims to strengthen or rebuild this connection. An EFT therapist will help couples identify and express their emotional needs and respond to each other’s needs in a supportive, compassionate manner. EFT can be particularly helpful for couples dealing with emotional distance or a lack of intimacy.

The Gottman Method

Developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, this method is based on extensive research into what makes relationships successful. It focuses on improving a couple’s friendship and intimacy, managing conflict effectively, and fostering shared meaning in the relationship. A therapist using the Gottman method might teach the couple specific skills, such as “soft startup” (starting discussions in a gentle, non-accusatory way) and “repair and de-escalation” (calming down during conflict).
